2014 World Series of Poker Day 16: Erik Seidel Leads Final of Omaha/Stud; Matt Jarvis Ahead in Six-Max
Of the three events in action on Day 16 of the 2014 World Series of Poker, two played down to final days that will play out today, with a couple of recognizable figures atop the counts in both.
Matt Jarvis ended the night with a big lead in Event #24: $5,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em, an event he won back in 2011. Meanwhile in Event #25: $2,500 Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low it was Erik Seidel bagging up the biggest stack.
Here’s a look at some highlights from yesterday’s Day 16 at the WSOP.
Event #24: $5,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em
Day 2 of Event #24 saw 129 return from a starting group of 541, and after 10 one-hour levels just 17 were left standing with one-time bracelet winner and 2010 November Niner Matt Jarvis having built a big stack of 1,373,000 and a substantial chip lead.
Jarvis is more than half a million chips clear of Jeremy Kottler in second position, with Bryn Kenney, Andrew Lichtenberger, Byron Kaverman, and Pierre Neuville among the notables also with above average stacks. 2012 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Merson, Griffin Benger, Amanda Musumeci, and Event #20: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout winner Kory Kilpatrick also remain in the hunt for the Event #24 bracelet.
The money bubble burst once the field was cut down to 60 which is when the dividing of the $2,542,700 total prize pool for the event began. Dan O’Brien (59th), Josh Brikis (58th), and Scott Seiver (55th) were among the min-cashers earning $8,746 apiece, with Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (51st, $9,509), David Pham (47th, $10,323), Dani Stern (43rd, $10,323), Ben Volpe (36th, $13,628), Freddy Deeb (33rd, $13,628), Matt Salsberg (31st, $13,628), Jeff Rossiter (28th, $16,196), Jared Hamby (24th, $19,731), and start-of-day-2 chip leader Chris “Big Huni” Hunichen (20th, $19,731) among the many familiar faces visiting the cashier before play concluded.
In one of the last hands of Day 2, Jarvis and Andrea Dato played a big hand that saw the pair putting chips in on every street as the board came 
. Dato bet the last of his stack on the river and Jarvis called, then Dato showed 
for trip aces. But Jarvis had 
for a full house, and Dato was the last elimination of the night in 18th ($24,613).

Event #25: $2,500 Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low
Over in Event #25 there were 139 returners yesterday from a starting field of 470, and they played down to just 18 with eight-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel managing to scoop enough pots to sit atop the overnight leaderboard.
Mike Leah, John Kabbaj, and Chris Reslock occupy the next three spots in end-of-Day-2 counts from the tough remaining field, with Thomas Keller, Tyson Marks, Joe Tehan, Tom Schneider, Robert Mizrachi, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, Konstantin Puchkov, Owais Ahmed, and Matt Glantz all also still with chips.
The top 48 finishers were scheduled to get paid in this one, although 49 technically did after Chris Klodnicki and Dustin Leary simultaneously busted on the money bubble to split 48th-place prize money of $4,694. Others cashing on Day 2 included Thomas Butzhammer (41st, $4,694), George Danzer (39th, $5,517), Vanessa Selbst (38th, $5,517), Jon Turner (37th, $5,517), John D’Agostino (35th, $5,517), Humberto Brenes (32nd, $6,490), Julie Schneider (29th, $6,490), and start-of-day-2 chip leader Cameron Tahmasebi (24th, $7,784).
Mike Matusow was the last elimination of the night in 19th ($7,784), but not before providing some late night drama after earning a one-round penalty for excessive celebration after scooping a big pot in the hand that eliminated Tahmasebi. After returning Matusow would lose a big hand to Christopher McHugh, then be felted shortly thereafter by Terrence Hastoo.
Most of the $1,069,250 prize pool — including the $267,327 up top for first — remains up for grabs. Here are the full chip counts for the 18 players left.

Event #26: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em
Also playing out Wednesday was Day 1 of Event #26: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em that saw 1,594 enter to build a $2,151,900 prize pool, $408,953 of which will be going to the winner on Friday. The top 171 will make the money, and when play ended on Day 1 they’d approached but had not hit that mark as 178 remained with Mark Dube the end-of-day chip leader.
Others building big stacks during the first day included Dan Smith, Ami Barer, Travell Thomas, Tom Alner, and Martin Finger. Mike “Timex” McDonald, just arrived to play his first event of the summer, also ended with above average chips. Meanwhile sitting just below the average is 13-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth.
